Logan City, Queensland, Australia, recently voted my poem the winner: hence I was Logan Poet Laureate for a year. Their theme was ‘Resilience.’
I HAVE RESILIENCE, AT LEAST I THINK I DO – Soni Laugesen
I was told I am resilient.
The voice came from inside my head.
I was told that I am brilliant
by the same voice, and the same voice said
I own my power, I am invincible!
Of course, you’ve guessed – the affirmation principle:
Whatever I tell myself I AM, comes real
So I AM resilient, I’m talented and I feel
Great!
Until something trips
the self-worth switch
and the faking’s ended.
Positive self-talk is suspended.
Where’s my resilience? I’m now bereft,
confidence has packed and left,
how easy to slip into negative thinking
let go, give up and feel myself sinking
in the deep depths of failure’s pools
where all is dark
and the black dog rules.
Slowly but slowly, power is restored
I see it’s me, pick that me off the floor
Start to believe I can grow.
Believe I can run my own show.
